Export completed work from Codex as text, scripture formats, subtitles, round-trip files, CSV/TSV data, backtranslations, and audio.
Exporting Projects
Use export when you are ready to deliver translated content, review data, subtitle files, audio, or round-trip files for another tool.
Open the Export Wizard
- Open the Main Menu.
- Go to Tools.
- Click Export.
- The Export Project wizard opens.
You can also open export from the Navigation panel when that shortcut is visible.
Set source and target languages before exporting. The export view needs language metadata to generate correct output.
Export Flow
The wizard changes based on the selected files and format, but the usual flow is:
- Select files: Choose a compatible file group. Mixed importer groups may need separate exports.
- Choose format: Select text, round-trip, subtitle, data, backtranslation, or audio options.
- Select milestones: Appears for some structured workflows, such as Bible audio export.
- Select location: Choose where Codex saves the files.
- Click Export.
Text and Markup Formats

| USFM | Scripture workflows that need USFM markers. |
| Generate USFM Without Validation | Faster scripture export when you intentionally need to bypass validation. |

Round-trip Export
Use Round-trip Export when the file was imported with a round-trip importer and you want to return to the original format.
Supported round-trip workflows include DOCX, IDML, Markdown, OBS, TMS files, CSV/TSV, USFM, and Biblica-style imports.
Round-trip export may require original media or attachment files to be available locally. Stream-only media projects can block or limit some round-trip outputs.
Subtitle Export
Subtitle projects can export:
- SubRip (SRT).
- WebVTT with Styling.
- WebVTT Plain.
- WebVTT cue-splitting options when available.
- Options to exclude speaker labels when the workflow requires clean subtitle text.
Subtitle exports preserve timing from the imported subtitle file.
Data and Backtranslation Export
Codex can export project data for QA and review:
- CSV.
- TSV.
- Backtranslations (CSV).
Use these formats when reviewers need spreadsheet-friendly source, target, metadata, or backtranslation columns.
Audio Export
Audio export is available for projects with audio attachments or media workflows. Options can include:
- Include per-cell audio files.
- Include timestamps.
- Export audio alongside selected text formats.
- Consolidate by Character for dialogue or dubbing workflows.
- Preview character-consolidated output before export.

Tips
- Export one file first when using a new format.
- Use round-trip export when the final deliverable needs the original structure.
- Confirm media strategy before exporting media-heavy projects.
- Keep a project backup before major delivery exports.
